A native of Wilson and a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Brooke and her family found St. Paul’s after moving to Cary. Her parents were both active in her parish—vestry, altar guild, Sunday School—so she grew up with church being a big part of her life. She was drawn to the people and children’s ministry at St. Paul’s. Prior to becoming preschool director at St. Paul’s, she taught elementary school in North Carolina and in Texas. Brooke served on the PTA Board at Cameron Park Elementary School for four years.
Five Fast Facts:
Mountains or beach – Beach
Duke, State, or UNC – UNC
Final meal would be – Dessert! Probably a caramel ice cream sundae.
Favorite hymn and non-hymn – “I Sing a Song of the Saints of God” and James Taylor’s “You’ve Got a Friend”
Something folks at St. Paul’s would be surprised to learn – Brooke was co-director of the Get Heeled 5K. Since 2011, the event has raised more than $170,00 for UNC’s Lineberger Pediatric and Oncology Clinic. When she volunteers – from running 5Ks to visiting the children’s hospital – her attire of choice is a tutu. She participates in events with a group of similarly tutu’ed friends, and she has a rainbow of colors to choose from.
“It’s amazing what you can do in a tutu. You can’t be in a bad mood. It makes you happy.”
